POSTER DESIGN
Today, we mainly learn about the basic principles of poster design.
What is the principles of poster design?
It is the rules that a designer must follow to create an effective and attractive composition.
Of course, a good design does not necessarily have to strictly follow these rules. Some absolutely mind-blowing designs ignore one or more of the principles of design in order to create an attract and effective work.
1. EMPHASIS
Contrast makes a design stand out and easier to remember. It creates a clear difference between the background and the element, which helps improve readability and overall effectiveness.
Using two fonts or three colors might lead you to repeat them—and that’s a good thing. Repetition makes a design more unified and powerful.
Proportion is the visual size and weight of elements in a composition and how they relate to each other. It often helps to approach your design in sections, instead of as a whole.
Movement guides the viewer’s eye through the design, and helping them understand the message in the design. It can creates a rhythm and narrative for your work.
White space (also called negative space) is the empty area around your design elements. For beginning designers it can be a perilous zone. Often simply giving a composition more room to breathe can upgrade it from mediocre to successful.
Exercise
The professor introduced us to the basic knowledge of photography and the HONOR Competition. This project will be to design a poster based on the theme of this competition.
I chose "City Inspiration: Beauty - The Scenery of Hometown" from many topics. This topic attracted me deeply at first sight, and I immediately had an idea in my mind when I saw this topic.
This week's homework is to find relevant posters for our selected topic through the Internet or other means as our own reference.
MY RESEARCH
Category: Magic Lock Screen (Square & Vertical poster only)
Title: The Golden Hour
Summary of your design concept:
In my hometown, I could always see the most beautiful sunsets. But now, I find myself far away, caught in the hustle and bustle of the city. That’s why I want to blend the city, my hometown, and the sunset—to create a golden moment that belongs to us.
PS: I would prefer static, but I would like to try dynamic if possible.

TUTORIAL
At first, my first impression of photography was limited to composition, filters, and color grading. However, after taking this week's course, I truly realized that photography is far from as simple as I thought.
From the basic knowledge of cameras to the differences between various shooting modes, lens selection, focusing techniques, etc., I understand the importance of the technical level. In addition, details such as the background, placement, and reflective material of the subject will also directly affect the quality of the final film. Especially when doing product photography, the choice of background should not only highlight the subject, but also coordinate with the style of the product. This not only has extremely high requirements for personal aesthetics, but also requires the control of every detail.
This course made me understand that photography is not only a technical job, but also a comprehensive artistic expression that requires theoretical knowledge, practical experience and keen observation.
LECTURE & EXERCISES
In the course of Lecture, the professor introduced several basic principles of poster design to us, which made me realize that poster design requires so many details. Of course, there is no need to strictly abide by every principle, otherwise the overall design will be monotonous and the beauty will be greatly reduced.
Poster design is a very interesting and challenging course, and I am very eager to try it. So, I will try my best to complete this assignment.
