The biography about myself

INTRO

Tell us about yourself

My name is Lee Xiang Ling. I’m 19 years old and I come from Pontian, a peaceful and warm district in Johor, Malaysia. I’m taking Bachelor of Design (Honour) in Creative Media. I have a deep love for sunsets and the sea.

PARAGRAPH 1

What is your passion?

My passions include painting, photography, and discovering the joys of delicious food. I also enjoy spending my free time listening to soft music while reading a book, or taking leisurely walks to appreciate the ever-changing scenery around me.

PARAGRAPH 2

What’s motivate you to achieve your dream?

Perhaps it’s the expectations my family holds for me, along with my deep love for life, that have supported me on this journey and helped me pursue my dreams. There was a time when I lost my way and even gave up on myself—it took a long time to heal and rebuild. It’s precisely because of those struggles that I now long for a peaceful and beautiful life more than anyone else.

SUMMARY

How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork?

My dream is to live a peaceful and simple life in a place where I can watch the sunset over the sea. To visualize this dream, I want to use the sunset and the ocean as the central elements in my artwork. They symbolize not only tranquility and freedom but also endless possibilities. Through soft colors and natural scenery, I hope to express a sense of inner peace and a deep love for life.

The statement about my work

INTRO

Tell us about your work

For this theme, I hope to merge the sunsets I once captured in my hometown with the cityscape, creating a visual piece filled with emotion and memory.

PARAGRAPH 1

What is the concept behind it?

I see this work as a reflection on hometown and memory. The fusion of sunset, hometown, and the city brings to mind a theme: “Golden Hour” — symbolizing the fleeting yet beautiful light of dusk. Much like the emotions of someone far from home, it reflects a tender, profound, and unbreakable connection to the place they come from.

PARAGRAPH 2

What is the message you want people to understand it?

Through my work, I want the audience not only to appreciate the beauty of the scene but also to connect with the feeling behind it—the longing for home, the yearning for a peaceful life, and the emotional pull of that familiar sky, even while living in a busy city.

SUMMARY

What is your motto/ quote?

Life is full of setbacks, but there's no need to be discouraged. When things fall apart, just start over — and slowly, you'll find your own path forward.

FINAL POSTER

TITLE: The Golden Hour in Johor

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I used the fusion of the sunset photos in Johor‘s city and the seaside to bring out the golden moment I wanted to express. The girl in the picture is the main subject, forming a sharp contrast with the city behind her, reflecting my emotional tug-of-war between the city and the countryside.

"Even when I’m far, I carry the sunset of home in my soul."in this picture is a portrayal of my inner heart. No matter where I am, the sunset of my hometown is always burning in my heart.

I hope that when viewers appreciate this work, they can also feel the warmth of home and the warm and eternal sunset in everyone's heart.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I captured the essence of my hometown's golden sunset in this visual poster. To better suit a mobile lock screen format, I intentionally removed the large headline, creating a cleaner and more immersive visual experience. By blending a human figure with the sunset cityscape, I aim to convey a heartfelt message — no matter where I go, my heart always stays connected to home.

Reflections

This project is a continuation of my previous poster design, with a new focus on bringing static visual elements to life. Although I had learned how to use After Effects before, this time I chose to experiment with timeline animation in Photoshop. After watching the tutorial provided by the instructor, I began exploring a new approach.

The biggest challenge was figuring out how each element should move while maintaining a sense of rhythm and cohesion. Unlike static design, animation requires more detailed planning and constant adjustments. Despite the difficulties, I gained new skills and rethought the possibilities of visual expression. It was a valuable experience that opened up new directions for my future creative work.
