EXERCISES
Exercise 1: Sound Dubbing
In this assignment, we used our own voices to dub a selected scene from
Everything Everywhere All at Once, while also choosing suitable sound
effects and ambient sounds to support the scene’s mood and
storytelling.
Before production began, we worked in groups during class discussions
and organized our planning using an Excel spreadsheet, listing each
scene along with its timing, sound effects, and ambient sounds to create
a clear structure for the sound design process.
Our process list in Project 1_Excel File
Instructions
-
Place audio files on timeline and sync it with video.
- Audio track
- tracks for dialogue, one character, one track.
- tracks for sound effects.
- tracks for ambience sound.
- Edit voice from female to male, male to female, human to cute animal/adult to kid:
-
Premiere Pro → Audio Effects → Pitch Shifter → Semi
tones.
- Volume
- Dialogue: between -6dB & -12dB
- Ambience: below -20dB,
- Hard sound effects: Depend.
Exercise 2: Sound Shaping
In this assignment, we were required to record a five-second audio clip
using our own voices and apply appropriate ambient effects and sound
design so that the audio fits a specific scene.
- Voice of phone call
- Voice coming from inside of closet
- Voice in the toilet/bathroom
- Underground cave
- Alien/ Orc voice

REFLECTIONS
This exercise was both interesting and challenging for me. I had to explore
how to make sound more impactful or how to create an ethereal atmosphere
through audio effects, which were the main difficulties during the process.
However, through experimentation and adjustment, I gained valuable
experience. This was also my first time using Adobe Audition for sound
editing, allowing me to develop a deeper understanding of sound design and
post-production.
